Illusions swimsuits are made of a poly-lycra blend (85% poly and 15% lycra). You should not shower and shampoo in your suit as shampoo and conditioner will make the lycra break down (lose its strength) and cause the suit's color to fade. Instead, use clean water (chlorine/bleach free) and wait until you get home to wash your swimsuit. So ladies, don’t enter the showers, shampoo your hair and think you are cleaning your suit.
There are many lycra-specific washes you can purchase in the lingerie departments of major department stores. This wash will prolong the life of your suit and the color won't fade as fast. Take a spoon full of that product and add it to a clean sink with room temperature water. Swish your suit gently in an "up and down" movement until small bubbles appear. Do that for about a minute or two. Then run cold water in the sink throughout the suit until the bubbles are gone and the water runs clear. Try to remove as much water as possible. DO NOT RING YOUR SUIT. Try to squish the water out while it’s in the sink, enough so that you can hang it without dripping. Then, hang it to dry in a well-ventilated, low-humidity area. Your suit should be able to dry overnight. We suggest rotating suits if you are a daily or frequent swimmer. This enables the suits to properly dry between uses. With this care, our high-end poly-lycra suits will outlast traditional suits.
*Note…in warm weather wet suits left in cars will heat and grow mildew causing lycra breakdown
*Chlorinated suits that are still damp and left in the sun to dry will fade.
